MIDDLE DISTANCE - BLACK HILL
The new Black Hill map covers the area between the existing West Bay map and the village of St Arnaud. The landforms of Brunner Peninsula and Black Hill are both heavily influenced by their glacial past. The map is being produced by Jason Markham who mapped Teetotal Flats in 2012. There will be some unique challenges in the new area including bushland with erratic rock formations, forested hillslopes with undergrowth and an area of the village leading down to the shores of Lake Rotoiti. This event will be epic.

Planner: Jason Markham (WOC)
Controllers: Imogene Scott (NOC) & Graham Teahan (RK) Organiser: Jane Lambert (NOC) Comment from Jason Markham prior to starting mapping 11 June 2014: "I admit the atmosphere of an event around the village would be hard to beat, controlling a crossing on the state highway is doable and I like the concept in terms of a low-carbon, close-to-home concept... ...I have seen some world cups that are through and around Scandinavian and European villages that would have a similar feel, so I guess it's not that different. It would certainly be a memorable NZ middle champs." |
